How to Choose a Corporate Video Provider

Choosing a corporate video provider comes down to who does the work and where the handoffs are. The questions that matter before you sign.

Choosing a video provider usually happens under deadline, which is exactly when it goes wrong. A launch is looming, the calendar has a hole in it, and someone forwards three reels and a rate card. You pick whoever answers email fastest. Six weeks later you're managing a vendor who subcontracts the shoot, a colorist you've never met, and a turnaround that keeps slipping.

The better questions aren't about price. They're about who actually does the work, and where the handoffs are.

Who holds the camera — and the edit?

Plenty of shops that pitch you aren't the shops that shoot you. Ask whether the team in the room is the team on set, and whether editing, color, and motion happen in-house or get farmed out. Every handoff between companies is a place where intent gets lost and days get added. For content production for CPG brands, where you're feeding channels on a steady cadence, those lost days compound fast.

Where does the cost actually come from?

Gear rental, studio rental, and agency coordination are the three markups you rarely see itemized. A provider that owns its equipment and runs production itself isn't automatically cheaper, but its costs are legible — you can see what you're paying for. Ask for that breakdown before you compare quotes.

How fast can they turn a round?

Social moves faster than the traditional production calendar. The number that matters isn't the length of the whole project; it's how quickly a provider can turn a single round of revisions. Ask how a typical note gets handled, and how long it takes to see the change.

How much say do you keep?

Some arrangements hand you a finished thing and hope you like it. Others keep you in the room throughout. Neither is wrong, but you should know which one you're buying before the first shoot, not after.

Baker Brothers runs its own production start to finish, which is the short version of why we'd answer these the way we do. But the questions matter more than any one answer — ask them of anyone you're considering, and the right fit tends to make itself obvious.
